When the heating comes on and the windows stay shut, indoor air quality falls — right when you spend the most time indoors. Across Europe, winter is the worst season for the air inside your home: wood smoke and traffic haze get trapped under cold, still air, and sealed rooms hold onto cooking particles, dust, mould spores and CO₂. A quiet, low-cost air purifier is the simplest fix — running all night, windows closed, without a noticeable electricity bill.
Why winter is the worst season for indoor air
- Windows stay shut. Without ventilation, everything you generate indoors — cooking particles, dust, candle and fireplace smoke, pet dander — stays in the room instead of escaping.
- Outdoor smog peaks. Cold, still winter air traps pollution close to the ground. Wood-burning and heating push PM2.5 up across the Po Valley, Poland's cities, German Feinstaub hotspots and beyond — and it leaks indoors every time a door opens.
- Condensation feeds mould. Warm, humid indoor air against cold winter walls and windows creates damp — and mould spores circulate in the air you breathe.
- You're indoors more. People spend up to 90% of winter time inside, so indoor air quality matters more now than at any other time of year.
What a winter air purifier actually needs to do
Three things decide whether a purifier is worth running through the heating season:
- Quiet enough to run overnight. With windows shut, you'll want it on while you sleep. The Luggable stays under ~35 dB because seven large, slow fans move a lot of air gently — no high-pitched whine.
- Cheap enough to leave on. Energy prices bite hardest in winter. The Luggable draws about 15 W — roughly €2 a year at a few hours a day — versus 30–100 W for a typical HEPA tower. You can run it continuously without watching the meter.
- Powerful enough for a whole room. Hospital-grade MERV-13 filtration removes 93% of airborne particles, and at 681 m³/hr CADR (Intertek-tested) it clears living rooms and open-plan spaces up to 600–750 sq ft.
Meet the Luggable
The Luggable is a quiet, powerful, low-running-cost air purifier built around large DC computer fans and a true MERV-13 filter. It handles the things winter throws at indoor air — smoke haze, cooking particles, dust, pollen that lingers, and the fine particulate that drifts in from outside — while sipping electricity and staying quiet enough to forget it's on.
Choose the XL (7-fan) for large living rooms and open-plan spaces, the 5-fan for bedrooms and medium rooms, or the Carbon edition when odours and VOCs (cooking, smoke, damp) are the main concern.

Frequently asked questions
Do I really need an air purifier in winter?
Winter is when it helps most. Windows stay shut, heating and wood-burning raise outdoor and indoor particulate, and you spend far more time inside — so a purifier that runs quietly and cheaply through the season makes the biggest difference to the air you actually breathe.
Can I leave it running all night with the windows closed?
Yes — that's exactly what it's built for. At under ~35 dB it's quiet enough to sleep beside, and at ~15 W it costs about €2 a year to run, so continuous overnight use is no problem.
Will it help with winter mould?
An air purifier captures airborne mould spores circulating in the room, which helps reduce spread and the musty smell — the Carbon edition also tackles the damp/VOC odour. (It won't fix the damp itself; ventilation and reducing condensation do that.)
Is MERV-13 enough, or do I need HEPA?
For everyday winter air — smoke, dust, pollen, pet dander and most fine particulate — a quality MERV-13 filter removes the large majority of particles while letting far more air through, which is why it runs quieter and cheaper than a sealed HEPA unit.
Do I pay customs or import fees in the EU?
No. The price shown includes VAT, and all duties are prepaid — nothing extra to pay at checkout or on delivery, with free EU delivery over €100.
