What it costs you to run — UK

Electricity about £21 a year
Filters — one 20x25x1 pair from £58 a year
Together about £79 a year

Source: electricity from this model’s EPA ENERGY STAR certified listing — 81 kWh a year — at the October 2026 UK price cap of 26.32p per kWh. Filters at our own UK price.

Around 6p a day of electricity, plus genuine 3M Filtrete MERV-13 in a standard size you can buy anywhere — not a proprietary cartridge.

Independently compared — HouseFresh

Yearly cost to run with filters included, not electricity alone. The Luggable XL is the dearest of the four to buy and the cheapest to own.

Model Electricity + filters, a year
Luggable XL Ultra $72.29
Levoit Vital 200S $121.45
Winix 5510 $166.51
AirFanta 3Pro $187.34

Over three years it comes out cheapest of the four even after the higher purchase price — paying that difference back in about 15 months against the Winix and the AirFanta.

Filtrete is made in the United States, so filters cost less there than here once shipping, duties and VAT are added — which is why our UK figure above is higher. That applies to every unit in the table, not only ours.

Big rooms are where cheap air purifiers quietly fail. A unit sized for a bedroom simply can’t move enough air to keep a living room, open-plan kitchen or classroom clean — it runs all day and barely touches it. For large spaces, the number that matters is clean-air delivery rate (CADR): how much filtered air the purifier actually produces per hour.

Sized for rooms up to 516 sq ft

The Luggable XL Ultra (7-Fan) delivers 622 m³/h CADR — enough to properly clean a living room, open-plan space or classroom of up to 516 sq ft (about 48 m²), giving 3–4+ air changes per hour depending on ceiling height. That’s the throughput of a large HEPA tower, but at under 35 dB and ~14 W.

  • 622 m³/h CADR (PM2.5, 366 cfm) — built for large, open spaces
  • Suggested room size 516 sq ft (about 48 m²)
  • MERV-13 filtration — ~93% of airborne particles (pollen, dust, smoke, viruses)
  • < 35 dB even at full output — so it stays on and keeps working
  • ~6p a day of electricity (~14 W) · ships from Oxford, UK · 12-month warranty

Why airflow beats “HEPA” hype in a big room

As IAQ expert Joseph Fox notes, in a large space “all you care about is the total rate at which the air is cleaned.” A slightly finer filter is pointless if the fan can’t pull enough air through it. The Luggable’s multi-fan design maximises airflow through a large MERV-13 filter — the right trade-off for rooms most purifiers can’t handle.

How many do you need?

One 7-Fan XL covers most large living rooms and classrooms. For very large or subdivided open-plan areas, two units placed apart clean faster than one oversized machine. Our room-sizing guide gives you the answer for your room in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

What size air purifier do I need for a large room? Match CADR to room volume and target air changes. For a room of around 516 sq ft, aim for roughly 600 m³/h CADR — the 7-Fan XL delivers 622.

Can one purifier handle an open-plan space? Up to about 516 sq ft, yes. Beyond that, two well-placed units clean faster and more evenly than a single larger one.

Is it loud on full power? No — under 35 dB even at maximum output, so you can run it continuously in a busy room.
